San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 25, 2016) - The San Antonio Rampage (1-4-0-0) recorded their first win of the 2016-17 campaign in a 4-2 victory over the Texas Stars (2-3-1-0) in the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Sam Jardine landed the game winner in the ninth minute of the second frame, earning the First Star of the Game.

The Silver and Black notched the first goal of the contest in the sixth minute of regulation, as their streak of scoring first extends to three games. Chris Bigras took advantage of the power-play opportunity when he snuck one past Texas goaltender Maxime Lagace. Nearly eight minutes later, Texas answered with a goal of their own when Mattias Backman netted his second of the season. Backman made a nifty play off the boards and managed to flip the puck past San Antonio's Jeremy Smith. With the game tied at one, the Rampage fore-check forced a Texas turnover, allowing Troy Bourke to pickup the puck and earn his first assist of the season. Bourke pushed the puck down the ice and found a trailing Garry Nunn who obliterated the puck for a 2-1 lead.

San Antonio began the second period with a change in goaltenders as Spencer Martin stepped in for Smith. Martin looked sharp in relief as he blanked Texas on all 15 of their shots in the frame, including a handful of acrobatic saves. The Rampage found the back of the net one more time before the second intermission when Jardine sent a wrister upstairs on Lagace. Jardine's goal marked the Silver and Black's second power-play goal of the game.

The third period was relatively quiet until the final two minutes of regulation when Texas cut the lead to 3-2 on a Matej Stransky goal. San Antonio fought back nearly a minute later and bagged an empty-net goal to secure the Silver and Black's first win of the season.

Martin finished the game with 20 saves on 21 shots, while the Rampage converted two of their eight power-play chances.

Notes

The Rampage collected a season-high two power-play goals against the Texas Stars, while killing all three of Texas's opportunities with the man advantage.
