P-Bruins Fall to Toronto in Second Consecutive Overtime Loss

Toronto, ON - The Providence Bruins fell to the Toronto Marlies 4-3 in overtime for their second consecutive overtime loss. Marlies defenseman Andrew Nielsen scored 1:31 into overtime to seal the win for Toronto, as the P-Bruins couldn't take advantage of an early lead.

Providence kicked off the scoring early in the first when Zac Rinaldo registered his first of the season, assisted by forward Tyler Randell, 6:30 into the period. The P-Bruins continued their hot start later in the period as Peter Mueller posted an unassisted goal, his second of the season, to increase the lead to 2-0.

Toronto had a chance to get back in the game when P-Bruins defensemen Matt Bartkowski (interference at 14:12) and Linus Arnesson (tripping at 18:55) were called for penalties to give the Marlies two separate power play opportunities. Each time the penalty kill unit for Providence stood tall to keep the score 2-0 going into intermission.

After an unsuccessful power play for Providence early in the period, the momentum swung in Toronto's favor as the Marlies dominated the scoring in the second period. Tobias Lindberg got Toronto on the board to make the score 2-1, his first of the season assisted by Andrew Campbell and Brendan Leipsic. The Marlies scoring surge continued only 1:56 later as forward Kasperi Kapanen notched his fourth goal of the season to tie things up, assisted by Nikita Soshnikov and Frederik Gauthier.

Providence slowed Toronto's scoring push to keep the game tied until the final minute of the period, when Brendan Leipsic tallied his third of the season, assisted by Colin Smith and Andreas Johnsson, to give the Marlies a 3-2 advantage going into second intermission.

The P-Bruins came out in the third period looking to apply pressure and answer Toronto's second period surge. At 6:08 in the period forward Jordan Szwarz did just that, slipping the puck by Marlies goaltender Antoine Bibeau to tie the score at 3. It was Szwarz's first of the season, assisted by Alex Grant and Matt Grzelcyk. The score remained tied as time expired on the period, with each team registering seven shots in the frame.

Playing in front of their home crowd, Toronto came out quickly in the period and registered the game-winning score just 1:31 into overtime. Andrew Nielsen score for the Marlies, his second of the season, assisted by Kasperi Kapanen and Brendan Leipsic. Providence goaltender Dan Vladar provided 35 saves in the loss, while Toronto goaltender Antoine Bibeau tallied 30 saves for the home team.
