Rampage Fall to Aeros 5-1

HOUSTON - San Antonio Rampage right wing Mathieu Beaudoin scored the lone Rampage goal in a 5-1 loss to the Houston Aeros at Toyota Center Saturday night. The Rampage own a 37-27-3-1 record good for 78 points in the West Division standings.

Houston was first on the board with a goal by Patrick O'Sullivan just over a minute into the second period. Aeros right wing Jon DiSalvatore, who was fighting for the puck in the left corner, punched the disc out toward the crease and off Rampage netminder Joe Fallon's stick into the slot where O'Sullivan was positioned. O'Sullivan took a couple of strides toward the left circle before spinning around and firing a shot that beat Fallon glove side.

Aeros left wing Robbie Earl extended the Houston lead at the 8:49 mark of the middle frame when he scored on a shot from the slot that beat Fallon high stick side into the top left corner of the net. Cody Almond picked up the assist on Earl's 19th goal of the season.

Houston jumped to a 4-0 lead with back-to-back goals by Carson McMillan just 19 seconds apart. McMillan's first goal came at the 16:55 mark of the second period when he beat Fallon high glove slide on a shot from the right faceoff dot. Colton Gillies earned the lone assist on the play.

Just 19 seconds later, Aeros right wing Jed Ortmeyer sent a cross-ice pass from the left boards that found McMillan at the right corner of the crease and beat Fallon backdoor over his left leg padding. Justin Falk was credited with the additional helper.

Rampage right wing Mathieu Beaudoin tallied his 18th goal of the season at the 7:51 mark of the third period when he snuck the puck inside the left post and under Aeros goaltender Matt Hackett's right leg padding.

Just over a minute later, Jean-Michel Daoust and Casey Wellman teamed up to extend the Aeros lead to 5-1. Wellman skated the puck into the right circle and sent a pass across the slot that found Daoust at the left faceoff dot before firing a shot that beat Fallon between his blocker and the left post.

The Rampage racked up 44 penalty minutes on the night including 32 in the third period in which they killed off two five-on-three Aeros power-play opportunities.

The Aeros outshot the Rampage 40-15 as Fallon stopped 35 Aeros shots and Hackett made 14 saves. San Antonio's 15 shots are the fewest recorded on the 2010-11 season.

The Rampage will host their 4th annual Pucks & Paws Night tomorrow afternoon when they face off against the Houston Aeros at 3 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
