Heat Shutout Dogs 2-0

March 19, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, B.C. - A cool, calm, and collected J.P. Lamoureux picked up his second shutout of the season with a solid 2-0 victory over division rival Hamilton Bulldogs in front of a charged up 4,963 fans in AHL action Saturday night at the AESC.

Heat defender Chris Breen set the tone with a monster hit on Bulldogs forward Alexander Avtsin. The clean hit was one of the best of the year for the Heat. Despite the physical play, both teams would head to the locker room scoreless after one period.

The Abbotsford Heat opened the scoring midway through the second with a power play goal from forward Greg Nemisz. Nemisz picked up his 14th goal of the season with a nice snap shot from just inside the far faceoff circle that snuck past a screened Hamilton net minder Drew MacIntyre's glove side to make the score 1-0 Heat. The power play marker from Abbotsford would be the only goal of the second period giving the Heat a 1-0 lead heading into the final twenty minutes of play.

The Abbotsford Heat continued to hold on to their one goal lead throughout the third, killing a critical five on three power play for the Hamilton Bulldogs. J.P. Lamoureux made his most important save of the game late in the third period on another Hamilton Bulldogs power play, stuffing JT Wyman on a clear breakaway preserving the 1-0 Heat lead. Abbotsford forward Gaelan Patterson ensured the Heat victory, collecting a rebound of the post on a Jon Rheault shot and putting it in the empty net to make it a 2-0 final.

The Abbotsford Heat will now take to the road for their next four games beginning with a two game match up versus the Vancouver Canucks affiliate Manitoba Moose for a pair of key divisional games on Friday March 25th and Sunday the 27th.
