San Antonio Rampage News Release
PEORIA, Illinois - The San Antonio Rampage battled back twice from two goal deficits, but fell 5-3 to the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena on Saturday night.
The Rivermen struck early on a power play chance as forward Brad Winchester ripped a slap shot from the top of the right circle at 2:57. Peoria struck again as forward Nicholas Drazenovic took a pass in front of the net then scooped in a shot top shelf at 6:32 for a quick 2-0 lead. The Rampage came right back as defenseman Jonas Ahnelov snapped a shot from the left boards that deflected in off traffic in front for his first goal of the season at 8:42, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Winchester tallied again early in the second period as he fired home a wrister at 1:51 for his second of the night and upping the Rivermen lead to 3-1. Once again the Rampage responded as defenseman David Schlemko took a shot from the left point that was stopped, but forward Chad Kolarik was there to pop in the rebound at 13:33. Kolarik has now scored a goal in three of the last four games and is tied for the team lead with four on the year. Late in the period the Rampage went on the power play. San Antonio was 0 for their last 44 chances on the man advantage, but finally broke thru to draw even. Defenseman Logan Stephenson waited for a screen to develop in front then wristed a shot from the blue line thru traffic to even the game up at 3-3 at 19:43 with his first of the season.
The third period belonged to Peoria. Rivermen captain Trent Whitfield took a pass in front from forward Charles Linglet and slammed the puck into the net just 37 seconds into the frame for a 4-3 lead. Later in the period forward Chris Conner stripped the puck in the neutral zone and then cut into the Rampage end and finished it off with a nice move and a wrister to complete the scoring at 14:19. FINAL SCORE Peoria 5, San Antonio 3.
Al Montoya stopped 28 of 33 shots in 58:58, but took the loss and fell to 1-7-0. Marek Schwarz stopped 15 of 18 shots in 60 minutes and improved to 4-3-0. The Rampage were 1-3 on the power play while Peoria went 1-7. The Rivermen out shot the Rampage 33-18.
