
P-Bruins Fall To Pirates 5-2

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-2 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Martins Karsums and Adam McQuaid. The P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Norfolk Admirals at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game.
The P-Bruins got on the board at the 7:25 mark of the opening period. Vladimir Sobotka held the puck at the left point and worked it to Martin St. Pierre at the right point. He worked the puck into the right face off circle and passed it to Karsums who was all by himself on the opposite side of the net, scoring his sixth goal of the season. Only 18 seconds later at the 7:43 mark, the Pirates tied the game at one. Felix Schutz tipped the puck into the net for his third goal of the season, while Tyler Bouck and Marc-Andre Gragnani had the assists. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
The Pirates took their first lead of the game at the 6:45 mark of the second period. Aaron Slattengren netted his third goal of the season, with Marek Zagrapan and Nathan Gerbe recording the assists. Portland took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Pirates took a 3-1 advantage at the 7:45 mark of the third period. Mark Mancari tallied his 11th goal of the season, while Mathieu Darche had the lone assist. The P-Bruins battled back to pull within a goal at the 10:29 mark. McQuaid took a shot from the right point and the puck went top shelf into the net for his first goal of the season. Karsums and St. Pierre grabbed the assists. Portland finished off the scoring with two goals late in the third. At the 11:35 mark, Darche netted his fifth goal of the season, while Tim Kennedy picked up the lone assists. Darche scored again at the 16:27 mark, his sixth goal of the season with Kennedy and Mike Kostka getting the assists, as the Pirates went on to the 5-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 30 of 35 shots for the P-Bruins, while Adam Dennis made 27 saves for the Pirates. Â The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
