Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- A pair of streaks came to an end Saturday afternoon as the Milwaukee Admirals four game winning streak was brought to a halt and the Rockford IceHogs six-game losing streak ended when the Admirals fell to the Hogs by a score of 5-2 at the Bradley Center.
The Ads were quick to get on the board first when took an early 1-0 lead just 51 seconds into the game. The puck was lingering on the blue line when defenseman Cody Franson fired in a slow wrister that was tipped out of the air by forward Andreas Thuresson as it found its way under the blocker of IceHogs netminder Corey Crawford. It was Thuresson's third goal of the season.
However, it wouldn't take long for the IceHogs to even it up when at 12:39 after a scurmish in the front of the net center Nathan Davis squeezed in a floating rebound past Admirals goalie Drew MacIntyre off the post, glove side. Pete MacArthur and Tim Hambly recorded assists on the goal.
Just four minutes later Rockford's Rob Klinkhammer took advantage of a turnover in the Ads zone. After a puck fumbled off a defenseman's stick, Klinkhammer was quick to take it in all alone from the top of the circle and score on a diving shot high to the glove side. His goal came unassisted at 11:58.
The second period started out in the same fashion as the first. Just 3:27 into the stanza rookie Nick Spaling carried the puck into the offensive zone with the intention of scoring on his own. When the puck was chipped away by an IceHogs defenseman, the biscuit dropped right into the center between the hash marks for Triston Grant who fired a snap shot over Crawford's glove. It was Grant's first goal of the season and the game was tied at two.
This time it would be the IceHogs getting on the board early in the period when Mike Radja found a loose puck in between the blue line and the top of the circle in the Ads zone. When he realized he was all alone he threw in a fluttery turn-around wrist shot that trickled past a screened MacIntyre.
A few minutes later Rockford center Tim Brent controlled the puck in the Ads zone on the right wing side when he spotted Wisconsin native and former Badger Jack Skille on the other side of the ice. He fired a pass to Skille who snaped it past the blocker side of MacIntyre to take the 4-2 lead before the half-way mark of the third. Defenseman Jean-Claude Sawyer also notched an assist on the play.
Rockford added another before the night's end when Petri Kontiola blasted a slapshot from the middle of the offensive zone that somehow found its way through MacIntyre's five-hole. It was his sixth goal of the season and went unassisted.
The night's loss ended Milwaukee's four game winning streak and dropped the team's record to 6-5-0-1. The Admirals went 0 for 7 on the power-play and have scored only one power play goal in the last five games. Drew MacIntyre stopped 27 out of 32 shots, while Corey Crawford stopped 29 of Milwaukee's 31 shots.
