November 15, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled right wing Bobby Ryan and defenseman Brett Festerling from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Ryan, 21 (3/17/87), appeared in 14 games for Iowa this season, scoring 9-10=19 points with a +2 rating and 19 penalty minutes (PIM). Among AHL leaders, Ryan ranked tied for third in scoring, tied for fourth in goals, tied for 11th in assists, and tied for first in power play goals (6). The 6-2, 208-pound winger recorded points in 12 of his 14 games with the Chops, which included an active seven-game point streak (6-5=11) at the time of his recall. Selected in the first round (second overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Ryan made his NHL debut with Anaheim last season, scoring 5-5=10 points with six PIM in 23 games. He also made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut with the Ducks in 2007-08, playing in the first two games of the Conference Quarterfinals against Dallas.
Festerling, 22 (3/3/86), scored 0-5=5 points with a +2 rating and 14 PIM in 14 games with Iowa this season. The 6-1, 214-pound blue-liner ranked second among team defensemen in scoring and tied for first in assists at the time of his recall. Signed as a free agent on Sept. 14, 2005, Festerling has yet to make his NHL debut. He spent his first professional season with Portland (AHL) in 2007-08, collecting 3-11=14 points with 64 PIM in 74 games. In the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, Festerling helped the Pirates to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, scoring 1-3=4 points in 15 games.
The move comes on the heels of an injury in last night's Ducks game against the Nashville Predators to Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin, who suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the third period. Beauchemin underwent an MRI exam this afternoon which revealed the injury. He is expected to miss approximately six months.
