Three goals in third lifts Griffins over Flames

A three-goal third period pushed the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at the i wireless Center. Justin Abdelkader, Francis Pare and Ryan Oulahen scored for the Griffins while Warren Peters netted his seventh goal of the year to supply the Quad City tally.

The netminders exchanged saves in a high tempo first period. Quad City's Matt Keetley stopped nine Griffins shots while Grand Rapids goaltender Daniel Larsson turned aside eight Flames chances. Neither team was able to break through before skating back to the dressing room for the first intermission.

The Flames scored the games first goal when Warren Peters beat Larsson on a shot from the slot at 3:39 of the middle period. Peters' goal was scored in transition following a neutral ice feed from Carsen Germyn. The Flames held the lead through the remainder of the period before heading to the second intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The Griffins tied the game at 6:48 of the third period when Abdelkader rocketed a shot into the Quad City net. Five minutes later Francis Pare scored on a blast from the right wing circle during a 4-on-4. Grand Rapids secured the win with an empty net goal from Ryan Oulahen with just 66 seconds left.

The Flames will visit Bleacher Bums in Davenport on Monday at 6:00 p.m. for another edition of the Budweiser Flames Forum. Head Coach Ryan McGill, Warren Peters, Adam Cracknell and Dan Ryder will join host Aaron Roof. Fans in attendance will be eligible to win prizes from Budweiser and the Flames.
