Rampage Earn 6-1 Victory Over Marlies

SAN ANTONIO -- Left wing Evgeny Dadonov scored two goals and goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 31 saves as the San Antonio Rampage beat the Toronto Marlies 6-1 in front of 7,545 fans at the AT&T Center on Saturday night. The team wore themed jerseys for Face-off Against Kids Cancer Night that raised $26,000 in a post game auction to benefit the childhood cancer program.

The Rampage got on the board first with a goal from Dadonov at the 3:22 mark of the first period. Center Mark Cullen started the play by stepping in front of a Marlies clearing attempt and feeding the puck back to defenseman Colby Robak at the point. Robak wristed a shot on goal that bounced off of Toronto goalie Jussi Rynnas' leg pad and out to Dadonov at the right side of the net. Dadonov then converted on a diving wrap-around attempt to beat Rynnas to the left post and give San Antonio a 1-0 edge.

San Antonio added to their lead nearly halfway through the second period with a goal from center Bracken Kearns. His fourth goal of the year came on the rebound of a shot from the point from defenseman Keith Seabrook that bounced off Rynnas, went off the stick of right wing Michal Repik, and was batted out of mid air and into the net by Kearns to double the Rampage lead to 2-0 at 9:51 of the middle frame.

The Rampage tacked on another goal right before the second period expired to make the count 3-0. Repik and center Tim Kennedy worked a give-and-go along the left faceoff circle before Repik took a shot that beat Rynnas over the right shoulder and trickled over the goal line for Repik's second goal of the season with 42 seconds remaining in the period. Kearns notched his second point of the game with the secondary assist on Repik's goal.

The Rampage started the third period with three goals in a span of 1:46 to double the Rampage lead to 6-0, the most goals the Rampage have scored in a game this season.

Joe Devin, who was called up from Cincinnati earlier this week, tallied his first AHL goal in his AHL debut at 2:45 of the third period to widen the San Antonio lead to 4-0. Center Wacey Rabbit deflected a Toronto pass at the Marlies' blue line and Devin picked up the puck along the left wing boards before taking a shot from in tight on Rynnas that slid underneath the goalie's left skate for the score.

Another Rampage call up this week, forward David Marshall, scored his first goal of the season off a centering attempt that went off the skate of a Marlies defenseman and through Rynnas to give San Antonio a 5-0 lead with nearly four minutes gone by in the third. Defenseman Nolan Yonkman posted his second assist of the season while forward Brian Sutherby provided the additional helper in his season debut.

Dadonov mirrored his first score with another wrap-around goal to give the Rampage a 6-0 advantage just 49 seconds after Marshall's score. Dadonov took a pass from defenseman Evan Oberg as he crossed the Toronto blue line, went around the net, and tucked the puck inside the right post for his second goal of the game and third of the season. Oberg picked up the primary assist on the goal, which was his first point of the season, and Seabrook notched his second helper of the game with another assist to earn him third star.

Center Joe Colborne scored the lone Toronto goal in the last minute of the game on a Marlies power play. Colborne cut to the middle of the ice, took a pass from center Nazem Kadri, and beat Clemmensen with a quick shot over the goaltender's right shoulder to cap the scoring at 6-1.

Clemmensen stopped 31 of 32 Marlies shots in the win while Rynnas made 24 saves on 30 Rampage shots for Toronto. Mark Owuya relieved Rynnas with 15:29 remaining in regulation stopping both shots he faced.

Prior to the game, the Rampage paused for a moment of silence to honor Yadira Medrano, Yonkman's Face-Off Against Kids Cancer buddy who lost her battle with cancer on Oct. 4, 2011. The team unveiled helmet stickers with her initials "YM" that they will wear for the remainder of the season. Yonkman's jersey went to the highest bidder at $2,500 and Yonkman threw in an additional $500 on his own to help the Rampage reach $26,000 to benefit the Face-Off Against Kids Cancer program. In addition, Kearns has pledged to donate $20 for each goal he scores this season to benefit his Face-Off Against Kids Cancer buddy. His goal tonight brings his total to $80 on the season.

The Rampage (4-5-0-0) host their Lone Star Faceoff rival, the Texas Stars, in a 3:30 p.m. matchup at the AT&T Center on Sunday afternoon.
