BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 6, 2011) - Marco Rosa scored the game-winning goal on the power play with 7:50 left in regulation as the St. John's IceCaps defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon. The loss snaps the Sound Tigers three-game winning streak as they fall to 6-5-1-0. St. John's improves to 9-2-3-0.

The IceCaps controlled the first portion of what turned out to be a wild first period. St. John's took it to the Sound Tigers early on, netting the first three goals of the game. Riley Holzapfel beat Mikko Koskinen at 7:50 of the first period to open up the scoring. Ben Chiarot scored his first pro goal beating Koskinen over the blocker to increase the St. John's lead to two at 14:11 and Jason DeSantis scored on a delayed penalty call to give the IceCaps a 3-0 lead with 2:17 left in the first period.

However, the Sound Tigers responded quickly to swing the momentum back in their favor. Dylan Reese's shot on net was sailing high and wide of the cage, but the puck deflected off of David Ullstrom's shoulder and past David Aebischer to get the Sound Tigers on the board with 1:16 left in the period. The Sound Tigers then cut the lead to one just 13 seconds later when Casey Cizikas buried the rebound from a Tim Wallace shot, and the score was 3-2 after one period of play.

After a wild first period, the pace slowed but the Sound Tigers were able to even the score 4:43 into the middle frame. Jeremy Colliton fed the puck to Aaron Ness as he skated the blue line. The rookie defenseman fired the puck through a Colliton screen and past Aebischer for his second goal of the season to tie the game at three. Aebischer was then pulled in favor of Edward Pasquale after allowing three goals on 13 shots. Pasquale was impressive in relief, stopping all 12 shots he saw.

St. John's pulled ahead for good as they scored just as their 5-on-3 power play expired. Rosa found himself alone in the slot as he fired past Koskinen's glove, and his goal turned out to be the difference maker as the IceCaps held on for the 4-3 win.

The Sound Tigers return to action next Friday when they travel to DCU Center to face the Worcester Sharks at 1:00 p.m.
