Portland Pirates News Release

Manchester, New Hampshire - Brock Trotter contributed a goal and an assist and Justin Pogge turned away 32 shots to lead the Portland Pirates to a 4-1 over the Manchester Monarchs in an American Hockey League game played this afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Brett Hextall, Ryan Duncan and Colin Long also found the scoring sheet for Portland and Nathan Oystrick registered a pair of assists as the Pirates improved to 4-5-0-1 overall and 3-1-0-1 on the road this season.

Marc-Andre Cliche was the lone Manchester skater to beat Pogge on the afternoon, with his third goal against Portland this season, as the Monarchs dropped to 5-8-0-1.

The Pirates got off to a blistering start in the first period, racking up a total of 25 shots, which fell one short of the franchise record of 26 set during the second period against the Worcester IceCats on January 5, 1996. Hextall notched his second of the season, capitalizing on a cross-ice feed from Trotter who would contribute a tally of his own two minutes later on a power play for his first goal in a Pirates uniform (third overall) to give the visitors a two-goal advantage heading into the first intermission. In the second period, Duncan upped Portland's lead to three on his fourth of the season, knocking in a rebound off an Ethan Werek close-range shot. Long rounded out the scoring for Portland on the afternoon, tapping in a back post feed from Ryan Hollweg at the 10:25 mark of the final frame. With just under seven minutes remaining in the game, Cliche spoiled Pogge's shutout bid with his sixth tally of the season.

The Pirates out-shot the Monarchs by a 47-33 margin as Pogge received the victory in net for Portland, improving his record to 2-1-1 on the season. Jones dropped to 4-6-0 on the season for Manchester, while stopping a total of 43 Portland shots.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were: 1. Trotter; 2. Pogge; 3. Cliche.
