SAN ANTONIO- The San Antonio Rampage (8-9-1-0) dropped their first overtime game of the season 4-3 to the Texas Stars (9-6-1-1) on Friday night at the AT&T Center. Captain Joe Whitney recorded his 250th professional point on an early third-period goal, while Alex Belzile registered his 100th professional assist. Left wing Gabriel Bourque secured two assists on the night, earning the Second Star of the Game.
After 20 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Stars opened the floodgate when Justin Dowling scored an unassisted short-handed goal 7:06 into the second frame. The Rampage responded quickly at 11:21 on a blast from Matt Lashoff, who connected on a series of passes from Belzile and Bourque. Texas recorded their second short-handed goal of the night when newly assigned Stephen Johns found the back of the net on San Antonio's Kent Simpson at the 16:48 mark.
Down 2-1, the Rampage began the third period with back-to-back goals from forwards Garry Nunn and Whitney. Nunn tied the game at two just 1:54 in the third period on a Mike Sislo pass, while Whitney cleaned up a loose puck at 4:46 when Bourque's initial shot hit the post. San Antonio surrendered the game-tying goal at 12:32 to Travis Morin for his seventh of the season. The momentum carried into overtime as Johns landed the game winner at 2:15 for his second goal of the night.
