Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Wisconsin Woodchucks (12-10) would jump on Mallards (14-10) starter Colin Brockhouse (Ball State) early, as the Mallards fell to the Woodchucks by a score of 8-5. It was Madison's fourth loss in five games after the Mallards turned in a four-game win streak prior to that.

With the scored tied at one heading into the third, the Woodchucks would string together five consecutive base runners, including two doubles, to put up five runs in the inning. Brockhouse would exit the game after 2.2 innings, his shortest outing of 2016.

The Mallards would find themselves down six heading to the 8th, with the Woodchucks pulling starter Jonah Dipoto (UC-San Diego) after seven strong innings.

Dipoto's relief came in the form of Dallas Gibson (Lipscomb), who sat down the first two Mallards on just a handful of pitches. Gibson would issue two-out walks to Bryce Carter (Stanford) and Josh Stowers (Louisville) before throwing 14 straight balls. In total, Gibson would hand out five consecutive free passes before he was relieved, as Evy Ruibal (Notre Dame) came in with two outs. Rubial would walk Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) on four pitches, putting the ball streak at 18. Zach Jarrett would groundout on the first pitch to end the inning, but the Mallards had already pushed three runs across, cutting the Woodchucks lead in half.

The Mallards went quiet in the 9th, giving Brockhouse his first loss of 2016. After allowing six hits and two earned runs in seven innings, Dipoto earned the win. Rubial picked up the save over 1.1 innings.

Cameron Frost (Washington State) was a bright spot for Madison, as he posted a solid 2-4 night that included an RBI. His two out single in the third brought home Matt McCann (Fairleigh Dickinson).

Alex Smith (North Florida), Alex Hintze (UCONN) and Kevin Berge (St. John Fisher College) were all lock-down in relief tonight, allowing only one hit in their 5.1 combined innings pitched. Smith was able to strike out three batters in his two frames.
