Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

Battle Creek, Mich. - The Battle Creek Bombers defeated the Rochester Honkers, 3-2 Friday night at C.O. Brown Stadium, sweeping the two-game series against Rochester. The Bombers' record improves to 14-12 on the season.

The game started as a pitcher's duel and stayed that way through three innings, with 10 of the first 20 outs coming via the strikeout.

But in the bottom of the fourth inning, shortstop Daniel Patzlaff led off with a double. After Nick Poirier flew out to left field, Daniel Jipping hit a triple, scoring Patzlaff. The throw into third base flew into the Bombers' dugout, allowing Jipping to score, and giving the Bombers the 2-0 lead.

The Honkers, though, scored one run in both the fifth and sixth innings.

And with the game tied at 2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, third baseman Ryan Dorow led off with a single and Daniel Patzlaff executed a sacrifice bunt, advancing Dorow to second base. Right fielder Nick Poirier hit a single, allowing Dorow to reach third base. Then with one out, Daniel Jipping flew out to deep left field, and Dorow scored on the sacrifice fly, giving the Bombers the 3-2 lead, which was the final result of the game.

Starting pitcher Jordan Horak took a no decision for the first time this year. Horak went 5.2 innings and struck out a season-high nine batters. He walked three batters and gave up two runs.

Kaleb McCurry came on to relieve Horak. He faced one batter but did not get him out as catcher Truman Brown threw out Jacob Thomas as he was trying to steal third base during the at-bat. Edgar Sanchez recorded the win after pitching 2.1 innings of relief, and Brandon Guske recorded the save for the Bombers.

The Bombers now head to Kenosha to take on the 2015 Northwoods League champion Kingfish Saturday night at 7:05/6:05 Central.
