Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Albuquerque, NM - The Tacoma Rainiers failed to match the Isotopes banner night at the plate and dropped their series finale with Albuquerque 20-7 at Isotopes Park on Saturday night.
Tacoma, after taking a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning, was outscored 20-2 through the bottom of the fourth inning.
The bulk of the damage was delivered in the third after the Rainiers surrendered a season-high 11 runs in the frame. A trio of singles allowed Albuquerque to take an 8-7 lead before the Isotopes proceeded to blow the game open with three two-out home runs to close out the inning.
Albuquerque added to Tacoma's trouble after Joe Becker and Russell Mitchell both homered in the fourth. Mitchell and outfielder Jamie Hoffman each went deep twice against the Rainiers on Saturday.
The Isotopes run total marked the most the Rainiers have allowed in a game since 2009 and the six home runs the club surrendered equaled the most given up all season.
The Rainiers made their first appearance on the scoreboard in the second after outfielder Greg Halman's single scored Wily Mo Pena to put Tacoma up 1-0. Two batters later, first baseman Johan Limonta hit a grand slam that stretched the Rainiers advantage to five runs.
Outfielder Carlos Peguero hit his ninth home run with Tacoma this season, a two-run blast, to give the Rainiers a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
Isotopes reliever Ramon Troncoso (2-2) picked up the win for Albuquerque, tossing three shutout innings with three strikeouts after coming in for starter Felix Francisco in the fourth. Rainiers starter Chris Seddon (7-6) struggled through two innings en route to collecting the loss. The left-hander surrendered a season-high 11 runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
The Rainiers (57-58) head to Round Rock to begin a four-game series with the Express at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-0, 0.00) is slated to start for Tacoma in the series opener against right-hander Brett Tomko (5-4, 6.34) for Round Rock. The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
