Rainiers Clobber Colorado Springs, 16-9

TACOMA, Wash. - Carlos Triunfel and Mike Carp each drove in five runs as the Tacoma Rainiers rolled past the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 16-9 in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,593 at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.

After driving in a run in the second, Triunfel upped his RBI total to four and erased a 6-3 Sky Sox lead with a game-tying three-run home run in the third inning. The infielder evened the score again in the bottom of the fifth; wiping out an 8-7 Sky Sox edge with his second RBI-single.

Carp, who is with the Rainiers on a Major League rehab assignment, broke the game open one out later in the frame with a three-run, bases-clearing double that gave the Rainiers an insurmountable 11-8 advantage. The designated hitter also contributed an RBI-single in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Every player in the Rainiers lineup recorded a hit as Tacoma tallied a combined 19 against the Sky Sox on Saturday. Triunfel led the club with a 4-for-4 performance, and Carp, Trayvon Robinson, Nick Franklin and Scott Savastano all turned in two-hit efforts for Tacoma.

Outfielder Darren Ford doubled with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend his career-best hitting streak to 17 games. Ford has now hit safely in 21 of his first 22 games since his season debut on June 15.

Reliever Brian Moran (1-1) earned his first Triple-A victory after holding Colorado Springs to one run on two hits over 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. In his Rainiers debut, starter Hector Noesi allowed seven runs - five earned - on eight hits and walked five over 3.1 frames.

Right-hander Stephen Pryor, who also joined Tacoma on an MLB rehab assignment, retired all three batters he faced in the seventh.

The Rainiers (40-52) play the final game of the club's four-game series with the Sky Sox (46-46) tomorrow, July 14. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (3-4, 4.17) is scheduled to start for Tacoma in the contest against Colorado Springs' right-hander Rob Scahill (7-9, 5.60). First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m.
