Omaha Defeated by Iowa, 9-1, in Sunday Matinee

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers were defeated 9-1 on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,089 fans at Werner Park. Starting pitcher Nate Adcock was hit hard and gave up nine runs (seven earned) over 10 hits in 3.1 innings on the hill. David Lough drove in the Chasers only run of the contest, the hard way as he plunked on the leg with the bases loaded, in the fourth inning.
Iowa (40-55) put Omaha (58-37) in a sizable hole as the I-Cubs snagged the lead with a four-run third inning. Adcock (4-3) sat down the first batter in the fourth then gave up back-to-back singles and a run-scoring double to start the fourth. He then proceeded to allow a two-run single and was victimized by a throwing error by short stop Tony Abreu that allowed runners to advance to second and third. Tommy Hottovy was then summoned from the bullpen and promptly gave up a two-run double before sitting down the final two batters of the inning. The runs were not charged to Hottovy since they reached base against Adcock.
The Storm Chasers loaded the bases in the fourth thanks to a Johnny Giavotella double, a strikeout by Wil Myers who promptly darted to first when the third strike dribbled away from the catcher and a walk by Clint Robinson to set up Lough for his painful RBI.
Unfortunately, that was all that the Chasers' offense could muster on Sunday en route to the 9-1 setback at the hands of their I-80 Rival. The quartet of Hottovy, Blaine Hardy, Brandon Sisk and Jeremy Jeffress combined to work the contest's final 5.2 innings without yielding a run.
Omaha will welcome the Oklahoma City RedHawks to Werner Park on Monday in the first of a four-game series. Monday's game is slated for 7:05 and will feature $1.00 hot dogs thanks to our good friends at Rotella's.
