Rain Can't Stop 'Cats Offense in 10-2 Victory

TROY, NY - After sweeping the Lowell Spinners in a three-game weekend series over Independence Weekend, the Tri-City ValleyCats continued their winning ways by topping the Connecticut Tigers 10-2 in a rain-shortened five inning contest at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Monday night.

Outfielder Ryan Bottger, one night after going 4-4 with four runs batted in, hit a home run for the third consecutive night, while also adding a double en route to finishing 2-3 with three runs scored.

Fellow outfielder Derek Fisher, the 37th overall selection by the Astros last month's MLB Draft, made his ValleyCats debut in style, reaching base all four times he came to bat. The University of Virginia product finished the night 2-2 with a walk, a hit by pitch, three runs and a stolen base.

Fresh off being named the New York-Penn League Player of the Week, 'Cats third baseman J.D. Davis continued his streak of dominance, going 2-4 with a double and one run batted in. A.J. Reed, who finished 1-2 with a double and three runs batted in, followed him in the order as Tri-City's 2-3-4-5 batters went a combined 7-11 with seven runs scored, six runs batted in and three extra base hits.

The ValleyCats also got an outstanding contribution from their starting pitcher, as right-hander Troy Scribner struck out a season-high nine batters. Although the game was called in the bottom of the fifth due to rain, the native of Washington Depot, Connecticut still became the first 'Cats pitcher to throw a complete game since Brian Holmes tossed a seven-inning complete game on the second leg of a double header on July 27, 2012.

The ValleyCats and Tigers have a quick turnaround before playing the finale of this two-game set, and the two teams will square off at 11:00am tomorrow morning on Camp Day at "The Joe." On the mound for Tri-City will be LHP Sebastian Kessay (1-0, 6.10), with RHP Josh Heddinger (0-0, 0.00) getting the start for Connecticut.

Due to tonight's conditions, there will be another Bark in the Park added to the schedule on July 17th.
