Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Angel Rosa went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double, and Michael Gunn tossed seven innings of one-run ball as Cleburne held on to snap a 13-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Sioux City Explorers at The Depot on Wednesday night.
Rosa finished just a triple shy of the cycle, doubling to leadoff the 1st inning and eventually scoring on a groundout and extending the lead to 2-0 with his 11th homer of the year in the 3rd inning.
Gunn worked through seven innings, giving up just one run on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts to earn his third win of the year. Shawn Blackwell inherited the tying run on deck in the 9th and worked through the final inning for his 10th save of 2018.
Angelo Gumbs clubbed a pair of extra-base hits - a two-run homer in the 6th inning that extended the lead to 5-0 and a double in the 8th.
Gunn also featured in the 8-spot of a National League-style lineup and went 0-for-2 but walked and scored on Rosa's RBI single in the 5th inning.
The Explorers scored a run on Dexture McCall's two-out RBI double in the 7th before bringing the winning run to the plate in the 9th inning. David Kerian struck out and Luis Durango flew out to end the game and snap Sioux City's league-best nine-game winning streak.
Most of Cleburne's production came from the top of the lineup, with Rosa/Trevor Sealey/Gumbs combining to go 6-for-12 with four extra-base hits and all five RBI.
Cleburne reliever Roman Gomez gave up a pair of runs on two hits with two walks and was lifted after Jose Sermo led off the 9th with a solo homer and Jay Baum followed up with a single.
The win is Cleburne's second over the last 18 games, and second in 12 games against the Sioux City Explorers.
The Railroaders now hit the road for a six-game, two-city roadtrip that begins in Fargo, North Dakota Friday night. Cleburne will also visit Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for the first time in franchise history next week.
Cleburne returns home Friday, August 10th to begin a four-game set with the Wichita Wingnuts. All promo info and ticket info can be accessed on www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
