RailCats Sneak Past Goldeyes in Extras

GARY, IN - The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 4-3 in 10 innings to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at US Steel Yard on Monday night.
With the Goldeyes leading 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Garrett Copeland tripled down the right field line. Andy DeJesus followed with a sharp groundball that deflected off Andrew Sohn's backhand side at shortstop. Copeland scored the tying run on the play.
In the bottom of the 10th, Mitch Glasser was hit by a pitch leading off and advanced to second when Colin Willis walked. A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. After Andy Paz grounded out to second base, Wilfredo Gimenez hit a soft line drive up the middle that scored Glasser with the winning run.
Keaton Steele (1-1), who worked a perfect top of the 10th with two strikeouts, earned the win in relief. Zach Hartman (0-1) took the loss for the Goldeyes.
The Goldeyes struck first with three runs in the top of the third inning. Victor Cruzado lined a one-out single to right off the glove of first baseman Alex Crosby. Sohn followed with a triple to right-centre that scored Cruzado with the game's first run. Two batters later, Reynaldo Rodriguez beat out a two-out, infield single that brought in Sohn to make it 2-0. Grant Heyman then doubled to left-centre, scoring Rodriguez from first.
Gary SouthShore answered back with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the inning. Glasser doubled to left-centre and scored on a close play at the plate after Willis singled through the right side. Willis took second base on the throw home, and was driven home when Paz doubled down the right field line.
Goldeyes' starter Kevin McGovern took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over six innings. McGovern walked one and struck out seven.
RailCats' starter Jeff McKenzie also took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six innings. McKenzie walked none and struck out four.
Cruzado finished the night with four hits. Jack Charleston and Cameron McVey each worked a scoreless inning in relief of McGovern. RailCats' reliever Adam Quintana pitched three scoreless innings and struck out seven after taking over for McKenzie in the top of the seventh.
