RailCats Sign Blunt DL Smith

SIOUX FALLS, SD -The Gary South Shore RailCats currently on a seven game road trip have placed INF Derek Smith on the Disabled List and signed INF Donald Blunt.

Derek Smith suffered a groin injury on June 30th at Sioux Falls and was placed on the DL retroactive to July 1st. The rookie from Jersey Shore, PA was on fire for the RailCats hitting .466 in 20 games. The RailCats signed Smith this past off season and a member of the clubs rookie class out of the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford. Smith has 27 hits with 5 doubles and 3 RBI for the season and was 20 for his last 39.

Donald Blunt was released by the Frontier Greys on June 30th where he played in 26 games for the Greys hitting .196 with a homer and 9 RBI this season. Blunt played at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and has parts of three seasons in indy ball. In 2013 Blunt played in St. Paul for 31 games going 22 for 87 with a .253 average adding 3HR and14 RBI. In 2011 Blunt split time between Fargo-Moorhead and St. Paul playing in 20 games total with a homerun and an RBI hitting .152.

The RailCats play the Sioux Falls Canaries Wednesday night at 7:05 in Sioux Falls with the game airing on WEFM and online at RAILCATSBASEBALL.COM. The RailCats return home for a three game weekend series this Friday July 4th against the St. Paul Saints.
