RailCats send outfielder Nathan Haynes to Los Angeles Angels organization

Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club announced today that the contract of outfielder Nathan Haynes has been sold to the Los Angeles Angels organization.

Haynes had played in 30 of the RailCats 32 games to date this season, mostly in left field. He batted .265 with five home runs and 17 runs batted in.

Haynes becomes the 13th player in RailCats history to be sold to a major league organization. Since the end of the 2005 season, this list has included catcher Jose Yepez (Seattle Mariners), first baseman Ben Risinger (San Diego Padres), pitcher Ivan Hernandez (New York Yankees), and pitcher P.J. Connelley (Los Angeles Angels).

Previously, the following players were sold by the RailCats to major league organizations: Pitchers Justin Craker, Tim Byrdak, Sazi Guthrie, Jake Upwood (all purchased by the San Diego Padres), and Dominic Woody (purchased by Seattle Mariners); and catchers Carlos Pagan (purchased by the Seattle Mariners), Rich Rodrigues (purchased by Los Angeles Angels) and C.J. Medlin (purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers).

RailCats Announce Trade

Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club announced today that first baseman Brad Vericker has been traded to Traverse City of the Frontier League in exchange for outfielder Kevin White.

White spent the last two seasons with Richmond in the Frontier League, where his manager was current RailCats pitching coach Chris Mongiardo. White hit a combined .305 with 31 home runs and 109 runs batted in, compiling 653 at bats. This season at Traverse City, White was batting .240 with one home run and seven runs batted in, playing in 26 games. White is a product of Presbyterian (S.C.) College and is 24 years old.

Vericker batted .200 with one home run and 13 runs batted in, playing in 25 games for Gary this season.

The RailCats roster currently stands at 21 after today's moves, one below the Northern League limit.
