
Joliet loses to Schaumburg

JOLIET-The Joliet JackHammers were shut out for the second straight game, losing 2-0 to the Schaumburg Flyers in the first game of a three-game series before 6,105 at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers were only able to manage seven hits.
Kevin Cheppenko started the game and allowed one hit over the course of the first two innings on the mound. With one out in the third inning, Cheppenko gave up a solo home to Ryan Walker. The Schaumburg Flyers had a 1-0 lead on the first home run of the year from the Flyers catcher.
Cheppenko (1-2) worked a one-two-three inning in the fourth and gave up one hit in the fifth inning. He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings pitched to suffer the defeat. In the sixth inning, Schaumburg scored another run against the âHammers.
Eric Cole singled and went to second base on a single by Josue Lopez. Ben Van Iderstine hit a ground ball to JackHammers shortstop Chad Ehrnsberger, who misplayed the baseball. Ehrnsberger was charged with an error, Van Iderstine reached first base, and Cole scored the second run of the game for Schaumburg.
The JackHammers and Flyers continue their three-game series Saturday night. The first pitch from Silver Cross Field is at 7:05 and the pre-game show begins at 6:50 on 1340 WJOL and online at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.
