June 23, 2006 - Northern League (NL) News Release


KANSAS CITY - Greg Bicknell and Byron Embry combined on a five hitter as the Kansas City T-Bones shutout the Joliet JackHammers 3-0 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Bicknell (3-4) worked eight innings, yielding five hits and one walk while striking out two. Embry struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save.

Charles Peterson had three hits for the T-Bones, including an RBI-single in the third inning.

WINNIPEG - Keith Maxwell hit a pair of three-run homers and Josh Beshears (pictured above) tossed a complete game to lead the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 14-2 rout of the Calgary Vipers at CanWest Global Park.

Maxwell's three-run homer in the third inning broke a 1-1 tie. Maxwell hit a second three-run blast in the fourth. Both home runs came at the expense of Calgary starter Jay Bobel (0-1), a 41-year old knuckleball pitcher making his Northern League debut.

Sean Walsh had two hits, including a solo homer in the fifth inning, and drove in three runs for Winnipeg. Jimmy Hurst had two hits and scored three runs.

Beshears (5-0) scattered six hits and one walk while striking out five to remain undefeated. Beshears, who threw his second complete game of the season, joins Fargo-Moorhead's Mark Michael and Kansas City's Jonathan Krysa as the Northern League's five-game winners.
