
RailCats Opening Night Is Friday; Begins Six-Game Homestand

GARY, Ind. - The RailCats are beginning their 10th season of play at U. S. Steel Yard with Opening Night on Friday at 7:10 p.m. against the Wichita Wingnuts. The RailCats opening weekend will include fireworks, a baseball hat giveaway and an appearance by competitive eating legend Takeru Kobayashi.
The fun begins on Friday night at the home opener, when all fans will receive a magnet schedule and there will be a spectacular post-game fireworks display. There will be fireworks after every Friday home game this season.
Every Saturday night is Souvenir Saturday and this Saturday, the first 1,000 fans will receive a baseball hat giveaway. It will also be "Belly Buster Night", as fans with large appetites will compete for the opportunity to face off against Kobayashi in an eating contest on Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is at 6:10.
On Sunday, Kobayashi will appear at U. S. Steel Yard for the second straight season. He will be available for pictures with fans and autographs, and will also challenge RailCats fans to an eating contest. It is also Times Family Sunday, and fans will be able to purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for just $36 with the coupon from the Northwest Indiana Times. Sunday's game begins at 2:10.
The homestand continues on Monday night, when the RailCats welcome the Sioux Falls Pheasants to town for a three-game set. Monday night at 7:10 p.m. will be Dollar Monday, where fans can buy one ticket and get the second for just $1. There will also be $1 specials at the concession stand.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday will be special 11:10 a.m. Kids Day games where local schools will come out to enjoy RailCats baseball. The schools participated in a contest to create a design for a RailCats rally towel that will be sold in McShane's Southshore Depot for the 2012 season. The winner of the contest was Ms. Vuckovich's 5th grade class from Lincoln Elementary in Hammond. Schools were offered special pricing, including a meal for their field trip to U. S. Steel Yard.
The RailCats will be "Entertaining the Region" with 50 home games this season. Every RailCats home game is packed with affordable family fun and entertainment.
