
'Cats Crush T-Bones 17-8

The RailCats exploded for a season-high 17 runs on 20 hits in a 17-8 drubbing of Kansas City on Wednesday night. The 'Cats took the three-game series and finished their opening road trip 4-3. Their home opener will be on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. against Wichita at U. S. Steel Yard.
The hit parade began in the first inning, as Rico Washington hit a run-scoring single and Craig Maddox knocked in a run with a groundout to make it 2-0.
The RailCats blew the game open with a five-run second. After a David Cooper groundout, seven straight men reached base as the 'Cats sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning. Mike Coles hit a two-run single, Kyle Haines hit an RBI single and two runs scored on wild pitches.
Mike Massaro led off the third with a solo homer to left, his third of the season to make it 8-2. Massaro had a single, double and homer in his first three at-bats but finished a triple shy of the cycle.
David Cooper's RBI double in the fourth made it 9-3. Washington blasted a two-run homer to left in the fifth that pushed the lead to 11-3.
Brian Kolb's RBI double in the seventh extended the advantage to 12-3.
The offense pounded out five more runs in the eighth, as Washington clubbed a two-run double, Maddox ripped a two-run triple and Rohde added an RBI double for the final runs for the 'Cats. Kansas City scored five runs in the ninth for the final margin.
Washington was 4-for-6 with 5 RBI. Massaro had three hits and Maddox knocked in three runs. Everyone in the RailCats lineup had a hit, and everyone except Adam Klein had multiple hits and an RBI. Coles and Massaro each tied a RailCats single-game record with four runs scored.
Nolan Nicholson (1-0) pitched two scoreless frames for the victory. The bullpen's 13 2/3 inning scoreless streak ended in the ninth inning.
The RailCats start a three-game series at home against Wichita on Friday night as they open their home season at 7:10 p.m. Andrew Johnston will pitch for the 'Cats.
