Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Winnipeg, MB, CA July 18, 2015- After two nights of explosive offense the Gary South Shore RailCats were shut out 10-0 by the Winnipeg Goldeyes, behind a complete game ace like performance from lefty Nick Hernandez Saturday night at Shaw Park.

The Goldeyes got all the runs they needed in the runaway win in the first inning off of RailCats starter Renee Solis. With one out, Gary third baseman Jose Sermo committed an error to allow Casio Grider to reach first. Casey Haerther doubled to score Grider and it was 1-0. The Goldeyes added another run on a sac fly to make it 2-0.

Haerther added another RBI in the home half of the third with a solo homerun to left to make it 3-0. It was the 11th homerun allowed by Solis which leads the American Association. In the fourth Haerther added another pair of RBI with a single part of a four run inning to make it 7-0.

While Haerther and company where doing what they were doing Hernandez was putting up blank inning after blank inning. The lefty came in with the third lowest ERA in the league at 1.89 and lowered his number to 1.77 scattering six hits in the complete game.

The RailCats chance to avoid the shut out came in the fifth with two outs. Roger Bernal walked and looked like he might score on a Jose Sermo double, but Bernal was gunned down at the plate 9-4-2 with catcher Luis Alen applying the tag.

Jaime Del Valle had his second two hit game in a row for the RailCats and Michael Schroeder worked two scoreless innings giving up two hits. The Crown Point product has not allowed an earned run in three appearances this season for the RailCats.

Hernanded (7-2) picked up the win tossing the gem for Winnipeg, while Solis (1-6) was charged with the loss working six allowing 10 runs on 14 hits with only eight of the runs earned. The two teams split the four game series in Winnipeg. The RailCats will travel all night to Kansas City, Kansas to open a four game series Sunday night at 5:00pm at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The game can be heard on 95.9 WEFM and online at RailCatsbaseball.com.
