Saints Set Season High in Runs and Hits, Sweep Canaries 16-4

SIOUX FALLS, SD (July 18, 2015) - With the opportunity to sweep their fifth series of the season, and first since June 8-10, the St. Paul Saints left little doubt. They set a season high in runs and hits, pounding out 19 total hits, in a 16-4 rout of the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday night. With the win the Saints improved to 42-12 and have an 18.5 game leading in the North Division.

All nine Saints collected at least one hit, eight of the nine players scored at least one run and seven of the nine had at least one RBI.

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Alonzo Harris tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Willie Argo. Vinny DiFazio followed with a solo homer to center, his 10th of the season.

The Saints carried a 4-1 lead into the fifth, but the Canaries tied the game up. With one out Michael Broad doubled and Chris Grayson doubled him home to make it 4-2. With two outs David Bergin hit a two-run homer to left-center, his seventh of the season, to tie the game at four.

The Saints, however, answered back and didn't stop. In the sixth Harris singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Argo's RBI single to make it 5-4. Harris finished the night 3-6 with an RBI and four runs scored.

Then the onslaught ensued. The Saints sent 10 men to the plate in the seventh and plated six runs. Three straight singles by Anthony Phillips, Ryan Lashley and Dan Kaczrowski, the latter plating a run, made it 6-4. An error by third baseman RJ Perucki on a ball hit by Harris scored a run to make it 7-4. Three batters later Angelo Songco made it 9-4 with a two-run double. Mike Kvasnicka made it 11-4 with a two-run single.

In the ninth the Saints did something they hadn't done all season, hit a grand slam. Kvasnicka's RBI single made it 12-4 and then Phillips, crushed a line drive with the bases loaded over the right field wall, his second of the season, to put the capper on the night. Phillips went 3-6 with a grand slam, four RBI and two runs scored.

The Saints return home Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. to begin a four game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at CHS Field. The Saints send LHP Kramer Sneed (9-1, 2.56) to the mound against Goldeyes RHP Matt Jackson (3-6, 4.90). It is Peanut Free Night presented by Midwest Ear, Nose and Throat.
