Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Winnipeg, MB, CA July 17, 2015- The Gary South Shore RailCats took a wild ride to the finish line on Friday night, but it was just enough to down the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9-8 at Shaw Park in Canada. Bishop Noll graduate Andy Loomis, struck out Winnipeg veteran Josh Mazzola with two outs and the tying run at second to give the South Shore their second win of the series and a shot at a winning series in the final game tomorrow.
Wild it was! The RailCats took the lead in the first inning scoring two runs on one wild pitch. With JD Pulfer at third and Jon Jones at second Coby Cowgill uncorked a wild pitch to Adam Taylor that got away from former RailCat Ryan Babineu to score not one but two RailCats.
The RailCats added a pair of unearned runs in the second and had a 4-1 lead headed to the third. Winnipeg pushed across another run in the third to cut it to 4-2 but Charle Rosario would settle down and get the RailCats to the fifth with a 4-3 lead.
In the sixth Gary blew it wide open scoring three highlighted by a Jon Jones double to score two. They would add two more in the ninth after Jones tripled to start the inning. The RailCats looked like they were set with a 9-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth until the Goldeyes saw the first six men get aboard.
Nic Jackson took Loomis deep to with a two run homerun to make it 9-6 with no outs. Then Chris Robinson had an infield single and Luis Alen walked to put runners at first and second. Winnipeg loaded the bases with nobody out and the tying run at the plate. Loomis was able to get two ground ball outs that scored a run a piece to cut the lead 9-8 before facing Mazzola for the final out of the game.
The win gave Charle Rosario (9-3) his ninth win and sixth straight quality start, while Coby Cowgill (2-3) was charged with the loss. The two teams will wrap up the four game series Saturday evening in Winnipeg the half way point on the Gary eight game trip. The RailCats will send LHP Renee Solis (1-5, 3.70) to face Goldeye ace LHP Nick Hernandez (5-2, 1.89) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm.
