Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN- In a game that was eerily similar to Monday's 15-inning affair, the RailCats struggled to get hits and lost to the Sioux City Explorers 8-5. The Cats (10-12) burst out to a 5-1 lead but were unable to produce another run in the 12-inning loss to the X's (11-10).

Richard Castillo was charged with the loss after going 6.0 innings giving up five earned runs. He allowed eight hits, including a home run, while striking out three. Connor Overton earned the win as a reliever for Sioux City. Ryan Zimmerman got the start and went 6.0 innings allowing five runs but struck out nine.

Sioux City scored first run on a Jarred Mederos error in the first inning. It was Mederos' eighth error of the season.

Gary SouthShore answered in the second with a five-run inning. They capitalized on two Explorer errors and benefitted from a Cameron Newell double.

The RailCats only managed two hits in the next ten innings.

Sioux City jumped on Castillo in the fifth by using a Michael Lang home run. They scored the winning runs on a Nate Samson single with the bases loaded.

The RailCats and Saints battle again on Saturday, June 11th at 3:10 for the Baseball, Brews, and Blues game. The action starts with the Mansard's Pre-Game Show at 2:45 on 95.9 WEFM and online at railcatsbaseball.com.
