RailCats Infielder Rico Washington Retires

AMARILLO, Texas - The RailCats have announced the retirement of infielder Rico Washington and released him from his contract. Washington was batting .301 in 22 games with a home run and was second on the team with 17 RBI.

A former Major Leaguer with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008, Washington was in his 15th professional season. He played his final game last Saturday, when he suffered a hand injury after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first inning in the RailCats home game against Newark.

The club also released outfielder Sean Smith on Thursday. The active roster now sits at 20 players, two under the league maximum.

The RailCats begin a three-game series at Amarillo on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
