Matt Way Throws One Hitter

Laredo, TX - Matt Way (3-2) was dominate in his sixth start of the season for the Laredo Lemurs (12-16) as he threw a complete game, one hitter, in a 4-0 win over the El Paso Diablos (6-22) on Friday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Way started the game on a strong note striking out the first two batters looking. Way retired the first nine batters in order and gave up his first and only hit in the top of the fourth to the leadoff man Maikol Gonzalez who came into the game second in the league in hits with 40 on the year.

Way retired the side in order five out the nine innings, he threw 118 pitchers, and faced a total of 32 batters.

The Lemurs got on the board early in support of Matt Way, posting a run in the first with a double by Anthony Scelfo, and a single by Javier Brito to drive in Scelfo from second and give the Lemurs a 1-0 lead.

The Lemurs posted a three runs in the fourth with John Allen leading off with a walk, followed by a single by Palmer Karr Jr. Stephen Pearson reached on a fielder's choice with Allen going to third and Karr getting retired at second. After that, Ernie Banks Jr. stepped into the box and doubled to drive in two runs to give the Lemurs a 3-0 lead. The Lemurs would post one more in the frame to make it 4-0 and earn the victory behind Matt Way.
