Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
GARY, IN - The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 5-2 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at US Steel Yard on Tuesday night.
Colin Willis singled up the middle leading off the bottom of the second and advanced to second when Tillman Pugh walked. Andy Paz fought off a soft groundball down the right field line. The ball was ruled fair on a close play over the first base bag, and resulted in an RBI double that scored Willis. An ensuing throwing error allowed Pugh to score and sent Paz to third. Dale Carey followed with a line drive double to right that scored Paz to make it 3-0.
The Goldeyes answered back in the top of the third. With two outs and no one on base, Josh Romanski lined a single to centre. Reggie Abercrombie followed with a towering home run to left-centre that pulled Winnipeg within 3-2.
It remained a one-run game until the bottom of the sixth when Randy Santesteban hit a two-run homer down the left field line.
The RailCats received one scoreless inning each from relievers Robbie Coursel, Myles Smith, and Adam Quintana to close out the 5-2 score. Quintana pitched a perfect top of the ninth to earn his seventh save.
