American Association Game Recaps
August 14, 2018 - American Association (AA) News Release
Gary SouthShore 5, Winnipeg 2 - Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats never trailed on the way to a 5-2 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Tuesday evening at U.S. Steel Yard.
The RailCats opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when C Andy Paz doubled home RF Colin Willis (3-for-4) and DH Tillman Pugh scored on the same play thanks to an error. In the next at-bat, Paz scored as CF D.K. Carey doubled.
Both of Winnipeg's runs came with one swing of the bat when CF Reggie Abercrombie hit a two-run shot in the third, marking his 13th homer of 2018. 3B Randy Santiesteban countered with a two-run shot of his own in the sixth to round out the scoring for the game.
St. Paul 11, Sioux Falls 4 - Box Score
A seven-run third inning proved to be more than enough offense for the St. Paul Saints as they topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-4.
In the third, RF Max Murphy doubled home a pair of runs, DH Brady Shoemaker singled in two more and 3B (2-for-4) cleared the bases with a three-run home run. SS Joey Wong (2-for-3) added two more runs in the fourth with a homer and he tacked on another pair in the fifth with a single to right field.
The Canaries didn't find the scoreboard until 1B David Bergin's sac fly in the fifth plated 3B Patrick Fiala. LF Mike Hart scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Bergin capped the scoring on the night with a two-run home run in the seventh.
Cleburne 16, Texas 0 - Box Score
The Cleburne Railroaders pitching staff combined to two-hit the Texas AirHogs while their own offense put on a clinic, pushing the visitors to a 16-0 win.
Starting pitcher Jared Mortensen earned the win after giving up the two hits in five innings and striking out four batters. Mortensen walked just three batters and those were the only five baserunners the AirHogs had on the night. Reliever Jesus Sanchez came on and pitched three perfect innings with five Ks and John Hayes finished things off with three straight strikeouts in the ninth.
At the dish for the Railroaders, seven different batters tallied up 13 hits and 15 RBIs including LF Hunter Clanin who was 3-for-4 with seven RBIs. Clanin had a sac fly, a two-RBI double and a grand slam in the game. C Michael Gulino added two RBIs on a 3-for-4 night and two other Railroaders also had two-hit games.
