Sioux City-----The Gary SouthShore Railcats defeated the Explorers here Wednesday 9-4 to even the series at a game apiece Gary took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Explorers came back to score a run in the bottom of the first on a home run by Peter Barrows, his fifth of the season and one of three hits on the night by Barrows. The Explorers would take a 3-2 lead after two innings, but that is when Gary took over. in the fifth inning, the Railcats scored five run highlighted by a grand slam home run by Craig Maddox, his second home run of the season and Gary had taken a 7-3 lead. The Explorers would add a run in the fifth, but Gary relief pitching shut down the Explorers after that. The Railcats would scored a couple of insurance runs in the ninth inning to make it a 9-4 lead. Explorers starter Nick Schumacher (5-5) pitched five innings and took the loss while Gary rookie Jon Gulbransen pitched five innings and picked up the victory. With the series even at a game apiece, the final game of the season series between the Explorers and Gary will take place Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
