Quebec 11, Sioux Falls 6
Capitales RF Steve Brown led a mid-game offensive surge, helping Quebec beat Sioux Falls 11-6. Brown homered twice, including a grand slam, to highlight a pair of game-changing innings in the fifth and seventh.
Quebec trailed 5-0 before Brown got the Capitales on the board with his solo home run in the fifth. C Patrick D'Aoust homered two batters later and the Capitales rallied for two more runs to pull within one run. After 1B Rene Leveret's double tied the score in the seventh, Brown hit his grand slam to give Quebec its first and decisive lead.
Fargo-Moorhead 14, St. Paul 2
Fargo-Moorhead 3B Eric Campbell's 5-for-6 night found him a triple shy of the cycle, as he led the RedHawks past St. Paul 14-2. Campbell capped his performance in the RedHawks five-run ninth, as he both homered and drove in a run with a single. The third baseman finished with four RBI and three runs scored.
Almost lost amid the offense was the performance of RHP Paul Burnside. He threw a complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out seven. The win was Burnside's eighth of the year and first complete game.
Gary SouthShore 9, Sioux City 4
RailCats 1B Craig Maddox dramatically broke a tie with Sioux City in the fifth, leading to a 9-4 Gary SouthShore victory. Maddox belted a grand slam to cap a decisive five-run inning.
Gary SouthShore LHP Jon Gulbransen earned his second win of the season in five innings of work. He struck out four and allowed seven hits, ultimately benefitting from Maddox's grand slam, which gave him the lead right before his final inning.
Lincoln 4, Laredo 3
Lincoln RHP Wade Mackey held Laredo to three runs over seven innings, as the Saltdogs came away with a 4-3 win. Mackey did not allow a runner past second base in the second through sixth innings in picking up his fifth win.
The Saltdogs' three-run first led Lincoln most of the way, but it was their one run in the seventh that made the difference. 1B John Alonso doubled home Jimmy Rohan to ultimately win the game. The hit was one of two for Alonso, who also had two RBI.
Wichita 15, Amarillo 10
Wichita got the better of Amarillo in a 15-10 slugfest. Wingnuts 2B Wilberto Ortiz went 4-for-5 and finished a triple short of the cycle, but he was not the only major producer.
All but two hitters on each side recorded hits and six Wingnuts delivered multi-hit games in the win. 3B Greg Porter had the second-most RBI with four, but DH John Rodriguez accounted for more runs. Rodriguez went 3-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Kansas City 7, Winnipeg 4
Winnipeg's eight-inning comeback was spoiled by a timely T-Bones rally in the eighth. Kansas City led 3-0 until the Goldeyes scored one in the seventh and three in the top of the eighth to take the lead. Sensing the urgency, Kansas City struck right back with a game-winning four-run bottom half of the inning.
3B Enrique Cruz gave the T-Bones the lead again with a two-run single in the eighth. Two batters later, C Pat Trettel doubled home two more for insurance. LHP Brad Furnish got the benefit of the lead change, getting the win in 0.2 innings of work. RHP Mike Mehlich came on in the ninth to grab his ninth save.
Grand Prairie 16, El Paso 3
The Grand Prairie AirHogs exploded for eight runs in the eighth, busting the score wide open for a 16-3 win over El Paso. Three Diablos errors led the way for the AirHogs' big inning, which was highlighted by doubles from 2B Jose Perez and RF Trent Lockwood.
Lockwood and 3B Andres Rodriguez provided significant pop in the middle of the lineup. The pair combined for eight hits and seven RBI, and each scored three runs. Rodriguez also hit a solo homer in the fifth that helped Grand Prairie begin to pull away.
