Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

After the Gary SouthShore RailCats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Sioux Falls Canaries rattled off eight straight runs to take game three 8-1 Sunday at the U.S. Steel Yard.

In the second, the RailCats (22-26) put an uneared run on the board via a Roger Bernal RBI groundout.

But after that, it was all Sioux Falls. The Canaries (22-27) tied the game in the sixth off 'Cats reliever Matt Solter, and then roughed up Shawn O'Neill and Kevin Osaki in the seventh, eighth and ninth, no thanks to three late errors by RailCats' defense.

RailCats rookie starting pitcher Dan Ludwig threw 44 pitches through 3.2 innings in his second professional start and was relieved by Solter, who gave up the one run on two hits in 2.1 innings.

Tyler Pearson, who was tabbed with the spot start by Canaries manager Chris Paterson when probable starter Joe Bircher was sidelined with a oblique strain, worked the eighth straight quality start against RailCats' hitting in his six-inning effort.

The 'Cats and Canaries wrap up the series and homestand Monday with a special 12:10 p.m. start time at the U.S. Steel Yard.
