Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs' (26-24) centerfielder Ty Morrison got a walk-off base hit to give the Lemurs a 4-3 win over the Amarillo ThunderHeads (23-25) on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
With the Lemurs trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the ninth and ThunderHeads starting pitcher Matt Larkins pitching a gem, the Lemurs came roaring back. With two outs and runners at first and third in the bottom of the ninth, Larkins was taken out of the game and replaced by T-Heads closer Randy Hamrick. Hamrick walked Denis Phipps to load the bases. That would bring up Lemurs third baseman Juan Silverio who already has one grand slam home run on the season. Silverio would work the count and then he lined a triple in the left center field gap to score all three runs to tie the game at three. The next batter, Jeudy Valdez, grounded out and we headed to extra-innings.
The Lemurs held the T-Heads down in the top of the tenth and they had a chance to come to plate in the bottom of the tenth to win the game. Brian Peterson led off the inning with what looked to be a home run, but Art Thigpen, the third base umpire, did not see it that way and Peterson went to second with a double. Lemurs Manager Pete Incaviglia argued the ruling but to no avail. Peterson was taken out of the game for pinch runner Luke Bailey. Jarred Mederos was up next and he put down a sac-bunt relief pitcher Leyson Septimo bobbled and then he tried to get Bailey out at third on a quick throw. The throw was dropped by the third baseman Taylor Smart and that put runners at the corners with no one out for Ty Morrison. Morrison lined a pitch into left center that fell for a hit to give the Lemurs a 4-3 walk-off win in the bottom of the tenth.
John Brebbia (3-2) got the win for the Lemurs as he turned in two thirds of an inning with one walk and a punchout. The losing pitcher for Amarillo was Leyson Septimo (0-1) who gave up one run on two hits.
The Laredo Lemurs will look to take game four of the series tomorrow as they take on the Amarillo ThunderHeads at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
