RailCats Add Infield Depth

Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced today they signed infielder Randy Santiesteban and released pitcher Jake Eaton.

Santiesteban, who can play both middle infield spots, provides critical depth in the middle of the infield.  Elbert Devarie has started every game this season at second base and Jarred Mederos has started every game except one at shortstop.

Santiesteban was a 40th round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2014 and comes to the SouthShore with that familiar stellar collegiate career many of the RailCats have on their resumes. The Florida native played at NAIA power Peru State in Nebraska where he was the team leader in RBI's all three years he was with the Bobcats.

As a senior, Santiesteban led the team for the third year in a row in RBI's with 48 and led the school at the plate with a .431 average.  He led the team in home runs with 11 and his 33 extra base hits were also tops on the club playing primarily shortstop. The Florida native was the school's first NAIA First Team All-American.

Eaton, a LaPorte native, was signed over the weekend and pitched in one game.  He pitched yesterday against the Kansas City T-Bones and went 2.1 innings giving up one run on one hit while walking two.

Santiesteban was a teammate of RailCats reliever Manny Arciniega at Peru State.  He was born in Havana, Cuba and went to high school in Miami.

The RailCats' next game is tonight, Tuesday, May 31st at US Steel Yard. For more information on Gary South Shore RailCats season tickets and Group Outing information call 219-882-2255 or visit www.railcatsbaseball.com.
