Texas AirHogs News Release
LINCOLN, Nebraska - The AirHogs came back to notch a thrilling extra inning win in Lincoln Monday night, winning 3-1 in 10 frames. CF Michael Hur's 2-out, 2-strike double to left center in the 10th helped the team down the Saltdogs and earn its 5th win of the season.
Cody Hebner got the ball to start for the AirHogs and turned in a very solid performance. The righty went 5 innings, striking out 6 and allowing 2 hits and 1 run. The Saltdogs got to him for a tally in the 3rd when LF Brandon Jacobs drew a leadoff walk. He stole 2nd and, with 2 outs, 3B Christian Ibarra brought him home with a base hit to center.
RHP Matt Larkins was extremely sharp starting for the Saltdogs. The UC-Riverside alum did not allow a man into scoring position until the 8th, when AirHogs catcher Michael Miller smashed a line drive homer over the left field wall to tie the game at 1. It was the 2nd HR of the summer for the former Dallas Baptist University Patriot.
Pitching in relief, David Russo and Alan Oaks held the Saltdogs scoreless in the 8th and 9th, forcing extra innings. 5 AirHog pitchers combined to help the Saltdogs to strand 13 for the ballgame.
In the 10th, the AirHog offense really got going. Devon Rodriguez led off the extra frame with a single off righty Lincoln reliever Evan Reed. Cody Lenahan drew a walk to make it 2 aboard. With Will DuPont pinch-running for Rodriguez at 2nd and 2 outs, Hur became the hero. He took a 2-strike offering from Reed into the left field gap to score both DuPont and Lenahan and give the AirHogs their first lead of the evening.
The Saltdogs boarded 2 against Carlos Misell in the bottom of the 10th, but the righty shut the rally down with a fly to left by RF Jon Smith and a routine foul out from 2B Pat Kelly to finish the game and earn his 1st save. Oaks picked up his first W, while Reed, a former Detroit Tiger, took the first losing decision of his independent league career.
Hur finished 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. It was the 6th multi-hit game of the season.
The AirHogs (5-6) and Saltdogs (6-5) will meet for 3 more contests in the series at Haymarket Park, starting tomorrow at 6:35 CST. LHP Griffin Russell is expected to start for the AirHogs. A live radio broadcast of the game will be available on mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
