
Explorers Rally But Fall Short in Fargo

Fargo-Moorhead, ND - The Sioux City Explorers end their six game winning streak with the 11-8 loss to Fargo-Moorhead at Newman Outdoor Field.
Fargo-Moorhead came out of the gate swinging, plating the first run of the game in the first inning. Chad Mozingo worked up a lead-off walk and scored from first on an RBI double by Ryan Pineda, to give them the early 1-0 lead.
Sioux City was able to match the RedHawks run and add another in the top half of the second. With runners at first and third, X's catcher Ralph Henriquez knocked in the runner from third with a sacrifice-fly to center field. X's right-fielder Michael Lang ripped an RBI single to score the second run of the inning and take the lead 2-1.
Fargo-Moorhead went on to tie, then take the lead in the second and third innings. A solo-home run by K.D. Kang tied it in the second inning. RedHawks first-baseman Brian Humphries added three more runs in the third, homering with runners at second and third base to take the 5-2 lead.
The RedHawks added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth, loading the bases and scoring runners at second and third off an error by the second baseman to extend their lead 7-2.
The Explorers weren't ready to call it a night just yet, plating four clutch runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to a lone run. X's left-fielder Derrick Robinson knocked in the first run of the inning with an RBI single that scored Colwell from second base. With runners at first and second, Explorers right-fielder Michael Lang hammered a three run shot to clear the bases and cut the lead to 7-6.
In the bottom of the sixth, Fargo-Moorhead extended the lead back to two runs. With runners at second and third, RedHawks first baseman Brian Humphries singled to score a run and give them the 8-6 tilt after six innings.
Sioux City capitalized on a couple of errors committed by the RedHawks defense in the top of the eighth inning. X's catcher Ralph Henriquez worked up a base-on-balls, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third and scored off a base hit and error by the pitcher, cutting the lead to 8-7. Another error by the RedHawks defense moved X's left-fielder Derrick Robinson over to third, putting him in position to score on an RBI single hit by Michael Lang for the tying run.
Fargo-Moorhead ended the comeback hopes for the X's with a couple of daggers in the bottom of the eighth. The RedHawks infielders Josh Mazzola (two-run HR) and KD Kang each homered in the inning to retake the lead 11-8, which would go on to be the final score of the game.
The Sioux City Explorers will their final game of the series vs Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday (June 1st), first pitch-7:00.
