Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
St. Paul, MN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats welcomed Morgan Coombs back to their starting rotation prior to Saturday night's game with the St. Paul Saints. In a corresponding move, pitcher Ari Ronick was placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 22.
Coombs started for the RailCats on Saturday night and suffered the loss; he allowed five runs in three and a third innings in a 6-1 RailCats loss.
The trip to the disabled list comes after Ronick's best month as a RailCat. In four starts in July, Ronick was 2-2 with a 3.96 ERA. In 25 innings he struck out 23 batters and delivered quality starts against the Lincoln Saltdogs and Sioux Falls Canaries. This season, he is 6-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 13 starts.
Prior to Sunday's rubber match with St. Paul, the RailCats placed infielder Danny Pulfer on the disabled list and activated infielder Ryan Brockett.
Pulfer, who was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning of Friday night's game against St. Paul, is hitting .267 this season with six doubles and one home run. It is the second time Danny has been placed on the disabled list this season; he missed seven games in early June with concussion-like symptoms.
Ryan Brockett returns to the active roster after being placed on the disabled list on July 21. In four games with the RailCats this season, Brockett is 3-for-13 with starts at shortstop and third base. Ryan was acquired fromt the Schaumburg Boomers on July 17 to complete a previous trade; he was 6-for-18 with the Boomers.
The RailCats continue their six game road trip on Sunday afternoon against the St. Paul Saints. The game can be heard on 89.1 FM The Lakeshore or online at RailCatsbaseball.com
