Bats Go Quiet for T-Bones in Series Finale
July 28, 2013 - American Association (AA)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - For the second consecutive game, the day was ruled by a starting pitcher. Sunday that role belonged to Reyes Dorado of the El Paso Diablos, who left the Kansas City T-Bones flummoxed in a 5-0 Diablos victory in the series finale at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
A day after Kansas City scored seven runs on 13 hits, Dorado (1-1) entered the game with an inflated 14.72 ERA, but slashed it down to 4.63 after going eight innings without giving up a run. He struck out three and limited Kansas City to only five baserunners (three hits) until the ninth inning. Jake Meiers entered in the ninth and stranded two T-Bones to finish the job.
Ethan Cole (0-5), making his third professional start, went seven innings, his longest outing of the season. He gave up all five El Paso runs on eight hits.
Five of the Diablos' nine hits went for extra bases, with two doubles coming from Maikol Gonzalez. Oscar Mesa added a triple in the ninth.
The loss is Kansas City's last matchup against El Paso in 2013. The T-Bones are now 11-6 all-time against the Diablos.
Kansas City opens a four-game series against the Laredo Lemurs at home at 7:05 Monday night. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
