Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes outfielder Fehlandt Lentini became the all-time leader among independent baseball players in stolen bases when he stole third base in the bottom of the second inning in today's game against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles.

Lentini, 35, has 332 stolen bases during his 10-year independent career. He passed Billy Hall, who had 331 steals in the Northeast and Atlantic Leagues during five seasons, for the record.

A product of Sonoma, Calif., Lentini is in his fifth season with the Goldeyes and second on Winnipeg's all-time stolen base list with 153 steals and needs 27 more stolen bases to catch Brian Duva for the team record. Lentini stole 57 bases in 2006 to set the Goldeyes single-season stolen base mark.

Drafted by the Houston Astros in the 41st round of the 1996 MLB amateur draft, Lentini played three seasons in Houston's system before going to the Frontier League. He had two stints in the Mexican League, but has played the rest of his career in the independent ranks. In 1,179 minor league games at seven different levels, Lentini has 410 stolen bases.

Tickets for all Goldeyes games can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
