Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs News Release

LAST TIME OUT: The Rail Yard Dawgs managed just one goal on 44 shots as they fell to the Birmingham Bulls, 6-1, Saturday night at the Pelham Civic Complex. Maxime Guyon scored the lone Roanoke goal in the loss. Brad Barone allowed three goals on 17 shots before being lifted in the second period and Matt Zenzola stopped 10 of 13 shots faced in relief.

ROAD WARRIORS: Roanoke begins its weekend with a single road game in Huntsville against the Havoc before returning home to play Knoxville on Saturday. Huntsville and Roanoke are separated by a 470 mile bus ride. It is the 19th consecutive weekend (Thursday-Sunday) that the Dawgs have had at least one road game. Roanoke will also play at least one game on the road in each of the two remaining weeks of the regular season.

STANDINGS WATCH: If the regular season were to end today, the Rail Yard Dawgs would find themselves as the odd-man out in the postseason picture. Roanoke is currently tied with the Mississippi RiverKings for eighth place with 48 points but the RiverKings hold the tiebreaker. The Rail Yard Dawgs and RiverKings have each played 49 games and trail the seventh-place Birmingham Bulls by one point. Birmingham has played 50 games.

THE MATCHUP: Roanoke and Huntsville finish out their season series on Friday night with their fourth game against one another. The Dawgs are 2-1-0 in the three previous meetings, having won both of the matchups in Roanoke and lost, 5-2, in their only prior trip to Huntsville.

STEADY AS HE GOES: Maxime Guyon scored the only Roanoke goal on Saturday, pushing his point total to 13 (seven goals, six assists) in nine games as a Rail Yard Dawg. He now has points in eight of his nine games for Roanoke and is riding a five-game point streak.

THE OLD STOMPING GROUNDS: The Rail Yard Dawgs employ three players who previously played for Huntsville - Eric Witzel was with the Havoc for part of 2016-17 and Nick Schneider and Steve Mele both played in Huntsville in 2015-16.

IT GOT CHIPPY: The Rail Yard Dawgs and Bulls combined for 88 penalty minutes on Saturday, the most in a Dawgs game this season. Roanoke's 43 penalty minutes were the most committed by the Dawgs in a single game and 45 from the Bulls were the most by an opponent.

HOME ICE ADVANTAGE: Huntsville has enjoyed playing at home this season; it has gone 18-8-0 as opposed to 9-7-8 on the road. The Havoc outscore their opponents an average of 4-3 during home games. They lead the league in attendance and play in front of an average of 4,730 fans per game.

UP NEXT: The Rail Yard Dawgs will head home to finish their weekend with a game against the Knoxville Ice Bears on Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Berglund Center.
