Mississippi RiverKings News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Dan Tedesco notched a hat trick in back-to-back games as the RiverKings outgunned the Marksmen, 7-4.
After 20 minutes of scoreless play, Fayetteville opened the scoring only 19 seconds into the second period thanks to Ludlow Harris. The 1-0 Fayetteville lead was the only time the Marksmen would be out in front during the game, as Mississippi tied things at 1-1 less than three minutes later. Ryan Marcuz notched the goal for the RiverKings while Dillan Fox, in his first game back since his return from the ECHL, assisted on the goal along with Ryan Salkeld. Exactly two and a half minutes after Marcuz lit the Lamp, the RiverKings took the lead, 2-1 on Dan Tedesco's first of the night. Precision passing from Mark Whiteley at the point found Devin Mantha backdoor who slid the puck through the blue to Tedesco who buried the puck in the almost-empty net at the 5:36 mark of the second period.
The Marksmen showed resiliency battling back to tie the game at two with a shorthanded-goal by Andrew Doyle. Tedesco wasn't going to let the tie score last long, as he found the net for the second time on the night on a goal that was the mirror image of his first, this time assisted by Vytal Cote and Devin Mantha. With the 3-2 lead, Anthony Flaherty beat Tyler Greet to knot things one again, this time at three goals apiece. The see-saw battled continued with the RiverKings never giving up the lead. Derek Sutliffe added his tenth goal of the season, and the RiverKings took the 4-3 lead into the locker room for the second intermission.
Just like the start of the second, Fayetteville scored the first goal of the frame with a tally off the stick of Jake Hauswirth and locked things up once again, 4-4. That would be all the scoring on the night for the home team Marksmen as the RiverKings ran away with the game in the third. Fox beat Patrick Spano with an incredible individual effort after dancing through a few defensemen and lofting a backhand shot over Spanos's shoulder, Devin Mantha intercepted a pass on a heads-up play and slid the puck through Spano's legs, while Tedesco's hattrick empty-net goal iced the game for the RiverKings.
The two teams will faceoff again tomorrow night at Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville for the final game of the weekend for the teams. The RiverKings will play one in Florida against the Ice Flyers on Tuesday, March 27 before returning home to Planters Bank Ice at Landers Center on Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, against the Huntsville Havoc.
