
Ragsdale, Gates, Silva Shut Down Reading Bats in 2-0 Victory

RICHMOND, Va. - Starting pitcher Carson Ragsdale racked up a Double-A career-high nine strikeouts as the Richmond Flying Squirrels posted a 2-0 shutout win over the Reading Fightin Phils Saturday night at The Diamond.
The Flying Squirrels (17-21) struck out a season-high 14 batters and have won five consecutive games against the Fightin Phils (16-22).
Ragsdale (Win, 1-1) retired nine straight hitters to start the game, including striking out seven. He allowed three baserunners over five scoreless innings.
Evan Gates held Reading scoreless across two innings, allowing two hits and three strikeouts. Eric Silva (Save, 1) secured the shutout win with two strikeouts over two scoreless innings.
In the bottom of the second inning, Grant McCray belted a solo home run against Reading starter Robinson Pina (Loss, 4-2) to move the Flying Squirrels ahead, 1-0. It was McCray's team-leading fifth home run of the season and his third home run of the month.
After a leadoff triple by Jairo Pomares in the third inning, Luis Toribio brought him home with an RBI groundout, extending the Richmond advantage to 2-0.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Right-hander Matt Frisbee (0-5, 7.50) will start for Richmond opposed by Reading right-hander Konnor Ash (0-1, 2.29).
Sunday is Disability Inclusion Day as the Flying Squirrels team up with Friendship Circle of Virginia to celebrate inclusion. The first 1,000 fans will receive an Inclusion Day rally towel while supplies last. Gates will open at 12:30 p.m. Squirrel Tails Kids Club members and their families are invited to play catch on the field from 12:45-1:05. Plus, kids ages 14 and under can run the bases postgame presented by Richmond Family Magazine.
