Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Oklahoma City Blazers have hovered around .500 for most of the season. The last time the Blazers and Rocky Mountain Rage met was on Dec. 14th in OKC with the Rage winning 3-2 in a shootout. Tonight, the Blazers fought back taking down the Northwest Division leading Rocky Mountain Rage 6-2 at the Broomfield Event Center for only their second regulation home loss of the season.

The Rage fell to 19-4-2 (40 points), but maintained its top spot in the division and top winning percentage in the league (.800). The Blazers improved to 13-12-3 (29 points) for third place in the Northwest Division.

Just over one minute into play, both teams lost a player from tonight's lineup. Rage leading scorer Scott Wray left the ice due to injury. In return, Oklahoma City defenseman Tyler Fleck was assessed a five-minute major for elbowing to the face and a game misconduct at 1:03 of the first period.

The Rage capitalized on the five minute powerplay when Brent Cullaton picked up the puck from the boards behind the net. He passed it out front to Colt King, who got the first shot on net. Simon Watson chipped in the rebound at 2:51 giving the Rage the early lead. The Rage led the Blazers 8-0 in shots on goal by the time the major penalty expired.

Oklahoma City answered back with a pair of goals. At 13:27, DJ Jelitto scored for his 12th goal of the season, tying for team lead. Left winger Marc Connors wristed in a shot at 17:26 to give the Blazers the lead going into the second period.

Blazers winger Ryan Watson tallied the only goal of the second period at 15:42, unassisted.

Early in the third period, Blazers' Alex Lalonde fired a shot from the blue line through a screen in front of Rage goaltender Scott Reid to extend Oklahoma City's lead 4-1.

With 14:05 remaining in the period, Rocky Mountain earned a scoring chance firing the puck past the pads of Connors, but Connors reached back to stop the puck just before dribbling over the goal line. Officials initially called it a goal, but then waived it off after discussion.

Under 30 seconds later, Rocky Mountain's Daymen Rycroft answered back on the powerplay with another scoring chance, but this time it undoubtedly crossed the goal line, cutting Oklahoma City's lead in half.

Rocky Mountain's attempted rally did not last long as Oklahoma City added two powerplay goals from Mike Burgoyne and Jelitto to put a Rage win out of reach.

The Rage returns to action tomorrow when they host the Tulsa Oilers at the Broomfield Event Center.
