
Hounds Beat Kings To Move Into First Place Tie

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeat the Mississippi RiverKings 6-3 on Friday night at the Chevrolet Centre. The Hounds move into a tie for first place in the Northeast Division with the Kings.
Youngstown scored early and often as they rifled four goals in the first period to take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. Joel Irving scored at just 15 seconds into the game to notch his 10th goal of the season. Darrell Stoddard tied the game at one at the 3:33 mark. Eric Przepiorka responded with a shorthanded goal at 6:02 to give the Hounds the 2-1 lead. Przepiorka then added a power play goal to put Youngstown up 3-1. The second year pro now has a team leading 15 goals on the season. Kirill Starkov finished the first period onslaught with his first professional goal at 18:03 to make it 4-1. Starkov added an assist for his first multipoint night of the season.
In the second period it was Joel Irving who scored his second of the night, this one was shorthanded at 9:41 to make it 5-1 after two periods. Irving added an assist giving him 11 goals and 19 assists on the year. The two shorthanded goals scored by the Hounds ties a franchise record.
In the third period the Kings made it 5-2 thanks to a power play goal from Rick Kozak at 3:11. Mississippi was 1-10 on the power play while the Hounds were 2-7 with the man advantage. Petr Pohl finished the scoring for the Hounds with his 12th of the year with 15:48 to play. Louis Dumont added a goal for the Kings but the Hounds skated off with the 6-3 win.
Brad Roberts made 24 saves on 27 shots to pull his record to 4-4-0 on the season. Jeff Alcombrack had four assists on the night giving him 17 for the year. The Hounds are now 18-8-1 (37 points) and are tied for first place with the Kings who drop to 17-7-1 (37 points) this season. These two teams will meet up tomorrow night with first place on the line at the Chevrolet Centre with face-off scheduled for 7:05pm.
